We heard a few weeks ago that the long abandoned Waterside Commons was coming back from the dead. There were reports of Dillworth coffee being the first tenant. The other rumors for tenants included a bowling alley, small YMCA, restaurants, cigar shop, and ice cream store. To refresh your memory, here's what the property looks like.

Let's examine these possibilities a bit. For coffee, this seems like it could work given there are not many coffeehouses in the immediate area. Plus, the owner of Dillworth Coffee has committed to moving. I continue to see a lack of traffic at Stricklands, so I am very skeptical that we can support another ice cream store. The mini-YMCA seems like it could happen, given the distance from other area locations. Cigar shop? Yeah, I'll buy that. The bowling alley seems like another long shot, but it would be nice to have something like this nearby. The one that seems like the longest shot to me? Surprisingly, it's the possibility of a new restaurant. Recent history has seen anything but restaurant in the community. River Rat anyone?
Don't get me wrong. I want to see this property revitalized as much as anyone. A quick check of permits filed with the county recently, shows a lack of movement for this property. Let's hope we're wrong and that white building in disrepair will soon be revitalized.

Liquor and Tackle
It's official. The former Knothole biker bar is getting some new tenants. It's going to be a bait shop and a liquor store. Those things go together like video store and tanning salon.
Enjoy!

The BBQ Pit
Of the many things I love about Lake Wylie, the great options for Bar-B-Que rank right up there. One of those establishments is The BBQ Pit. The folks that run this place had experience in competitions and catering before they started the restaurant in 2009.
They have great chopped pork, brisket, chicken, ribs you name it. Side are great too. My personal favorite is the baked beans. I can tell you with no exaggeration that these are the best baked beans I have ever had.
The setting is small if you dine in, but the food is great and the folks that own this place could not be nicer when you dine here. Cheers.

Holiday Lights at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens
If you have not been to the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens yet, you should. If you have not been during this time of year, you definitely should. Having such a great attraction nearby is something I always tell people about when I'm asked about area attractions. The staff does a fantastic job decorating the gardens, the buildings, and even their orchid conservatory. There's events over the next month including Santa, a Holiday tea, and wreath making. If you have not been yet, I highly recommended it as a way to get in the spirit of the season.

Yet another Bank of America Branch
The new Bank of America branch at Mill Creek Commons opens today. So if you were concerned about the lack of BofA branches in the area, rest easy. With this, another piece of Mill Creek Commons falls into place.
So this begs the question, what should come next? What would you like to see? Let us know in the comments.

Foreclosures
I came across this handy function on Google Maps recently. You can use the real estate search function to view foreclosures. I know, not the happiest subject, but still an interesting way to see what the local real estate looks like right now.

I continue to be surprised by how many foreclosures I see in places like The Landing, The Palisades, and River Hills. How about you? Does this layout of the land surprise you or is it better than you thought it would be? Let us know in the comments.
